AD122 bus route

The AD122 bus is the main route serving Hadrian's Wall. The service operates daily from Good Friday until the last Sunday in September.

It runs hourly for most of the day between Hexham Bus Station and Haltwhistle Rail Station via Hexham Rail Station, Acomb, Wall, Chollerford, Chesters Roman Fort, Housesteads Roman Fort, The Sill National Landscape Discovery Centre, Once Brewed (for Steel Rigg), Vindolanda, Milecastle Inn, the Roman Army Museum, Walltown and Greenhead.

Go North East has extended its 185 route to serve Birdoswald Roman Fort and to provide a regular bus service from Monday to Saturday from Haltwhistle to match the operation of the AD122. There are three journeys each way from Haltwhistle Rail Station to Birdoswald with buses running via Haltwhistle Market Place, the Roman Army Museum, Walltown, Greenhead and Gilsland.

AD122 Rover tickets are valid on the 185 and available to buy on the bus. This provides access to Hadrian's Wall from Gilsland and Longbyre as customers can change buses at Greenhead or Haltwhistle onto the AD122.

In addition, the number 10 and the Tynedale Express services provide connections to the AD122 from Newcastle, Metrocentre and Prudhoe.

A Hadrian's Frontier ticket is valid for one, three or seven days on any Go North East bus across the North East, including the AD122. This makes it easy to explore the eastern end of Hadrian's Wall with Go North East bus services serving Corbridge Roman Town, Heddon-on-the-Wall, Great North Museum in Newcastle, Segedunum and Arbeia Roman Fort. It also provides access to the AD122 and 185 services for customers across the Go North East network.
