Mr George's Museum of Time
A lovely museum started and run by the daughter of the original Mr George who was a clock repairer. A nice little museum and very enjoyable for adults too.
The lovely lady who owns the shop is, in fact, the author of a short series of books about her adventures with her father (Mr George) when she was a little girl and inspired with her father's work.
Mr George's Museum of Time is a watch and clock museum, gift shop, and watch and clock repair specialists. The Museum is centred around the 'Mr George the clock man' series of children's stories, written by local author Diana Bell, who owns the museum. The stories are based on her father, who was a watch and clock repairer, and the adventures he has with his daughter 'Dinah' as they travel around Northumberland repairing clocks.
Diana also has a large collection of watches, clocks, tools and parts which she inherited and keeps adding to which forms the basis of the museum collection. There are also lots of activities for children throughout the museum including Mr George story DVDs!
The characters in the stories help to engage children in this fascinating subject, and create a very family orientated atmosphere. There is something here for people of all ages and more to it than meets the eye.
